Topic:   Build multiple assemblies for stock

By: GarethPosted on: Mar 17 2025 at 11:40:00 AM
I'd like to raise works orders to build more than one assembly for stock.

My particular case is to cut several different wires to specified lengths and place them in stock.

As far as I can see, I'd have to raise a works order for each cut length/colour combination as a works order maps to only one assembly.

Is there a way to do this in MiniMRP?

Thanks.

Multiples of the same assembly. Yes.

Multiple totally different assemblies in one work order. No.

But if you do want to make multiple assemblies (different top level part numbers) and if you do this regularly then why not make an imaginary top level assembly that 'contains' your assemblies and build that.

"Imaginary top level". Yes, I thought of that but the result would be 1 imaginary kit in stock and not, say, 25pcs of each of the items in the imaginary kit.

Unles, of course, its possible to explode the 'kit' back into stock which results in the built items appearing in stock but not exploding down to the components which were drawn from stock when the 'kit' was built on the original WO (if assembly is type ASSY).

It might require the kit to be changed from ASSY to CSAS between those steps, perhaps?

But maybe I'll just have to accept that I need to raise a WO for each task, however small. :)

You're right. Sorry. I never thought of the 1 imaginary assembly into stock.

Once you've built the 'Imaginary' assembly you could quickly edit the OnHand quantity of the sub assemblies. Maybe that would still be quicker than creating a ton of seperate work orders.

In the end, I completes the WO for the imaginary kit of cut wires so that I can show a stock transaction of all the wires.
I didn't 'finish' the kit but rejected it so it doesn't go into stock.
Finally I manually 'received' the cut wires into stock using the WO reference to provide some traceability.
That seems a reasonable workaround.
